HOW IT WORKS

Pregabalin (Pregacare) belongs to a class of drugs called gabapentinoids. It binds to specific sites in the central nervous system. By binding here, it reduces the release of several excitatory neurotransmitters (like glutamate and substance P). It essentially dials down the volume of pain signals being sent to the brain and stabilizes electrical activity to prevent seizures.

HOW TO TAKE

Take it at the same time(s) every day to keep levels steady in your blood. It can be taken on an empty or full stomach. Swallow capsules whole with water. Do not crush or chew them. Doctors usually start you on a low dose (e.g., 75 mg or 150 mg per day) and gradually increase it to minimize side effects. Stopping suddenly can cause withdrawal symptoms (insomnia, nausea, anxiety, or increased seizures). Always taper off under medical supervision.

MISSED DOSE

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Never double the dose.

SIDE EFFECTS

Most side effects are mild and often fade as your body adjusts.

Common: dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, and blurred vision.

Physical Changes: weight gain and swelling in the hands or feet (edema).

Cognitive: brain fog, difficulty concentrating, or mild confusion.
